Davis Thompson

The Lee-Scott basketball team will begin its state-title defense tonight when the Warriors host Morgan Academy.

The Warriors are missing a big piece of last year team in Heath Huff, a 6-10 center who walked on at Auburn University.

First-year Lee-Scott head coach William Johnson said it's going to be hard to replace Huff.

"I thought Heath did a lot for them, and it’s going to be hard to fill his shoes and his point production," he said. "What I’ve told them is that the whole team is going to have to replace Heath."

The Warriors return plenty of experience, though, including Davis Thompson, Hunter Harper, Brett Nelson, Wells Summers and Jackson Aldridge.

"Davis Thompson and Wells Summers, Hunter Harper and Jackson Aldridge have done a really good job of leading by committee," Johnson said. "They do a good job of getting after it. They do a good job of being both spiritual and vocal leaders for our guys. It’s good to have kids who have been there, done that."

Johnson added that the big question is how does the team handle success.

"You’re going to get everybody’s best game night in and night out whether you like it or not, and how do you handle that adversity," Johnson said. "We’re going to have some adversity.
