The injury bug hit the Lee-Scott football team during fall camp, putting three starters on the sidelines for Friday's season-opener against Monroe Academy.Â
Running back/linebacker Buck Dean, Safety/receiver Sam Harris and safety Thomas Whatley, who stepped into a starting role when Dean was injured, will miss the opening game.Â
That has made putting the defensive game plan together a challenging endeavor.Â
"We got hit pretty hard here lately," said head coach Robert Maddox. "We’re having to revamp a defense that would normally require two safeties. We don’t have them, so we’re having to look at some other alternatives."
Maddox said Dean and Whatley are expected back next week.Â
He added that he's been pleased overall with the progress his team made in the preseason, especially the defense.Â
Now, the Warriors will try to contain Monroe Academy's quarterback.Â
"He’s a running quarterback," he said."We’ve got to keep him contained. If we don’t keep him contained, it will be a long night.
Lee-Scott faces Monroe Academy on Friday at 7 p.m.
