This week's Athlete of the Week is Auburn High's Noah Warren, a junior on the Tigers' basketball team. Warren plays multiple positions, including point guard, shooting guard and small forward.
Auburn Villager: When did you get your start playing basketball?
Noah Warren: Well, when kids can play basketball, probably 3 or 4 (years old), I've just been playing ever since then. My dad played basketball, so I played and kept working and got good at it.
AV: What drew you to playing basketball?
NW: My dad because he played basketball and football, so I wanted to be like my dad. And I just loved balls since I was born. They said I used to play with balls all the time when I was a baby, so I just loved sports.
AV: What part of the game do you like the most?
NW: Oh, I like driving. Driving is my get-to-go. I go at it, especially if they're in man I go at it. That way they can't stop me then. In zone, I've got to get better at shooting. In zone, it spaces it out. But baseline, that's when I go. I go at it then.
AV: Do you have any role models from the NBA that you watch?
NW: Russell Westbrook. That's my favorite player in the NBA. I teach my game after him.
AV: What did you pick up from watching his game?
NW: Driving to the hole, being active everywhere, going fast, rebounding, defense, steals, everything.
AV: Do you have a favorite team?
NW: The Rockets because Westbrook's on there. I go wherever Westbrook goes.
AV: Do you like any college teams?
NW: My favorite college basketball team is Duke.
AV: How is the season going for you so far?
NW: The season's going good. At first, I was in football ... at the beginning of basketball. But once I kept going then, I kept getting better and better and better, so now I'm good to where I can craft my game.
AV: How do you think the season going for the team so far?
NW: The team's doing well. We've been together, we're talking more, we're going out to places more as a team, and we're just having fun and trying to win a state championship.
AV: What position do you play in football?
NW: I play safety and wide receiver.
AV: What do you like most about playing football?
NW: Hitting. I love just coming down and just hitting. That's my favorite thing to do — hit, knock people out.
AV: Do you have any hobbies outside of sports?
NW: No, I just love sports. Outside, I play sports with my friends.
AV: Who is your favorite player in football?
NW: Grant Delpit from LSU, the safety. They call me Delpit, some people do.
