Eric Schuster

This week's Athlete of the Week is Lee-Scott senior Eric Schuster, who plays quarterback on the Warriors' football team.

The Auburn Villager: How does it feel to be heading into your senior year?

Eric Schuster: It went by fast. It really did. It still hasn't really hit me yet, but I'm ready. I'm excited.

AV: How much do you think you've grown as a quarterback?

ES: Mentally, a lot. Physically, I've gotten stronger, but not much has changed. But I've learned a lot from coach (Robert) Maddox and all the coaches, and I definitely think I've matured more.

AV: Did you work on your skills during the offseason?

ES: Yes, sir. Last year, I had to be backup, so I had to be able to throw. But this year I really had to step up and get better at throwing. I hadn't done much last year and had to get ready to have to run the ball because I would have to take on a lot of the running load and still play defense, too, so it's been kind of a grind.

AV: What are your thoughts on this year's team? I know you guys got hit by the injury bug  a little bit in preseason.

ES: I think once we get fully healthy and reach our potential, I think we'll be a pretty solid football team. I have faith.

AV: Now that you're a senior are your plans for post-graduation coming into focus?

ES: Not much yet. I really just want to see how it pans out and go from there.

AV: Are you an Auburn fan and what do you think of this year's team?

ES: Yes, sir. I'm really excited. We may be a little too hyped, but I hope they're right when they're predicting we're going to be as good as we are. I'm excited. I love Auburn. And I think Jarrett Stidham is really good. But I think our defense is great, too.
