Life is precious.  The death of my father when I was 17 years old taught me that. My heart attack six months ago taught me that. My wife being pregnant six times taught me that. She delivered four healthy babies at EAMC, but also experienced two miscarriages. Again, life is precious.

Do you know how miraculous life is?  Isn't it amazing how life grows.

According to WebMD, at 5 weeks, a baby's brain, spinal cord and heart are forming.

At 6 weeks, a heartbeat can be detected (90-110 beats per minute).

At 8 weeks, facial features (eyes, nose, ears, & upper lip) are forming.

At 10 weeks, a baby's fingers & toes are no longer webbed.

At 12 weeks, teeth are forming.

At 13 weeks, a baby girl's ovaries are already filled with hundreds of thousands of eggs.

At 17 weeks, a baby's lungs are breathing in amniotic fluid and his kidneys are filtering urine.

At 18 weeks, a baby can hear his mother's voice.

At 20 weeks, a baby is about 6.5 inches long from head to rump.

At 22 weeks, a baby's senses are developed enough to touch and smell.

At 24 weeks, a baby weighs about 1 pound and can survive if delivered.

At 25 weeks, a mother can feel her baby hiccup.

At 26 weeks, a baby can sense light from outside the mom's body.

At 27 weeks, a baby has developed a sleep schedule.

And there's still over two months to go for most deliveries.

It truly is amazing to see how life is developed in a short period of time.  Life is precious.

One of the songs from the Bible says this about God's involvement in this miracle:

For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.

My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.

Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. (Psalm 139:13-16)

May we all come to see that life is precious.
