Guests may bid on meals such as a seafood boil for eight, mid-winter soups and breads, an Italian dinner for four and the ever-popular fish fry for 10.

Services are offered as well — an evening of childcare, computer assistance, pet sitting and more.

“After more than 20 years as auctioneer, I continue to be amazed by the quality of items that are in our auction,” said Terry Rodriquez, AUUF member. “This year, someone donated a gorgeous freshwater pearl necklace that belonged to their mother. Another heirloom donation is a collection of Halcyon Enamel boxes.

“Each one is exquisite in craftsmanship. There is a vintage chandelier and a vintage rocking horse. Also, we have nearly 100 silent auction items. It’s going to be a terrific night.”

The tour began in 1993 with just a few homes participating, but has grown to include 60 homes on North 8th and 9th streets in Opelika.

The homes are decorated with life-size Santas, angels, toys, carousel horses and Christmas themed figures. The Victorian Front Porch Christmas Tour has been voted one of the Southeast’s top rated tourism events and featured in Better Homes and Gardens and Southern Living.

This tour begins on North 8th Street and 2nd Avenue and includes over 10 city blocks. Admission is free.

On Dec. 11, the City of Opelika sponsors Chirstmas in a Railroad town, which includes wagon rides through the Victorian Front Porch Christmas tour and tour guides who take you back in time while enjoying the festively decorated homes.
