On Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2018, the pedestrian struck by a vehicle and killed on Interstate 85, south of exit 57 (Bent Creek) was identified as Kalishani Lanet Maxwell, age 41, from Tuskegee. The victim's identity was confirmed by the State Medical Examiner's Office and the Lee County Coroner's Office.

Released on 2/18/2018: AUBURN, AL - On Sunday morning, Feb. 18, 2018 at about 12:40 a.m., Auburn Police and Fire personnel along with EMS Paramedics responded to a report of a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle on I-85 near exit 57 (Bent Creek / Airport exit). Once on scene emergency responders discovered an unresponsive female lying in the roadway in the south bound acceleration lane on Interstate 85, south of the exit 57 ramp.
A 2012 Honda Accord, driven by a 19 year old female from Tuskegee, was on scene as well. The pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene at 12:58 a.m. The 19 year female driver of the vehicle did not sustain any injuries.
The preliminary investigation indicates that the pedestrian may have been walking in the roadway and was struck by the vehicle, however, the accident is still under investigation by Auburn Police; currently no charges have been filed. The victim, who has not been identified, will be sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences Medical Examiner’s Office in Montgomery for examination and identification.
