The Auburn Police Division, working in conjunction with the Auburn Fire Division, ALEA’s State Bureau of Investigation, State Fire Marshal’s Office, State Medical Examiner’s Office and the Lee County Coroner’s Office, has confirmed the identities of the two suspects recovered from the fire scene in the 1100 block of Stonegate Drive.

The deceased have been positively identified as Christopher James Wallace, age 38, from Spanish Fort, Alabama, and a 36-year-old female whose name is being withheld until family is notified. Both have been identified as being involved in the shooting of Officer Sanders. A preliminary examination by the State Medical examiner indicates that they both died as a result of gunshot wounds. It appears that the female initially sustained a fatal gunshot injury followed by Wallace sustaining a self-inflicted fatal gunshot injury. Weapons consistent with causing the fatal gunshot injuries were recovered adjacent to the bodies at the scene by law enforcement.

The case remains under investigation by the Auburn Police and Fire Divisions, Opelika Police Department, ALEA’s State Bureau of Investigation, State Fire Marshal’s Office, State of Alabama Medical Examiner’s Office and the Lee Coroner’s Office.
