The City now offers a mobile payment option for parking downtown

The City of Auburn has just made paying for a public parking space downtown that much easier with the addition of a payment option over a mobile device.

The city has partnered with ParkMobile for a contactless payment option for all surface parking downtown. That includes spots that utilize the parking kiosks, including along the streets, in the Municipal Parking Deck and in the Gay Street Parking Lot. The kiosks will still be operational and residents may pay there as well.

"I think it's notable to mention because it's fantastic, and I'm so glad that that's finally here," said Mayor Pro Tem Beth Witten at Tuesday night's City Council meeting.

For the time being, residents will still have to pay at the walk-up kiosks inside the Wright Street Parking Deck or at its exit gate. The City expects to offer mobile parking solutions for the deck in the future.

"Most everybody is carrying some sort of phone that connects to the internet and can do things," said City Manager Megan McGowen Crouch. "Instead of having to walk to the kiosk, you can have the ParkMobile app, put your space number in and pay for your parking right from your phone.

"The kiosks are challenging with cash and other things that they do, so we're trying to make it as easy as possible for people to park in downtown Auburn."

Auburn residents will now see signs peppered throughout downtown that have scannable QR codes as well as the parking zone for the app.

The city will charge a fee for using the app because ParkMobile levies a fee-per-transaction charge, according to Crouch.

"That's carried on to the user so we're not dipping into tax dollars to pay for that," she said. "But people are gladly paying that for the convenience."

Residents can download the ParkMobile app for their iPhone or Android devices at

To pay for parking, users enter the zone number posted on signs near their parking spot, enter their parking space number, select the amount of time they wish to park and touch “Start Parking” to begin the session.
