Amid concerns about a potential second wave of Covid-19 in the fall, Auburn University released this week a modified academic calendar for the fall semester, which is slated to begin on Aug. 17.

Students will meet during Fall break, which has been suspended, as well as on the first two days of Thanksgiving break, after which students do not have to return to campus. After two "student reading days" on Nov.30 and Dec. 1, the university will deliver final exams remotely.

"We know that the coming academic year will be unlike any other in Auburn University's history," said Provost Bill Hardgrave.

Further details on the university's plans will be released in the coming weeks.

Auburn University also announced that face masks are now required inside university buildings. Face masks are not required when alone in a private office or alone with a roommate in a residential hall room.

The university also encourages the wearing of face coverings in outdoor spaces on campus when social distancing is not possible.
