Auburn Area Community Theatre to Present Two-for-One Romantic Comedies

Performances: May 6th -8th 7pm, May 9th at 2pm

Location: Jan Dempsey Community Arts Center, 222 E Drake Ave., Auburn, AL

Join Auburn Area Community Theatre (AACT) for “Kalamazoo” and “Check, Please!”- two quirky, one-act romantic comedies that offer a light-hearted look at love, with absolutely no mention of Covid!

In “Kalamazoo,” Peg and Irv, two quirky but endearing baby-boomers, bravely venture into the world of modern dating. When these opposites attract, they discover love isn’t any easier the second time around. Winner of the Riva Shiner Comedy Award, “Kalamazoo” is a romantic comedy about life’s second act and learning you’re never too old to be young.

“A disarming comedy that lets us laugh about growing older…the banter in this play is both hilarious and startlingly honest. It just rings true in ways that can be surprising and shocking, but always satisfying.” —Examiner.com.

And as a bonus feature, Auburn Area Community Theatre will also showcase one of the most-produced American one-act plays of 2019-2020 as a companion and opener to “Kalamazoo.” In “Check, Please!,” dating can be hard, especially when your date happens to be a raging kleptomaniac, or your grandmother's bridge partner, or a mime. “Check, Please!” follows a series of blind dinner dates that couldn't get any worse -- until they do!

Both comedies, with a mix of new and seasoned performers, are sure to delight audiences aged thirteen and up, as the cast of both shows represent a variety of age ranges as well. “Kalamazoo” is under the direction of Tricia Oliver, with “Check, Please!” being directed by AACT’s very own President, Terry Kelley.

Performances will take place at the Jan Dempsey Community Arts Center on 222 E Drake Ave., Auburn, Alabama on May 6th-8th at 7pm, and May 9th at 2pm. Runtime is approximately 90 minutes with a brief intermission between the plays.

Tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for students and seniors. Call 334-246-1084 or visit www.auburnact.org for ticket purchases and more information.
