January 26, 2012Toomer's oaks to be replacedBy Staff report Auburn Villager Auburn President Dr. Jay Gogue has accepted the Future of Rolling Toomer's Corner Committee's recommendation to replace the poisoned oaks with one or two large, live trees, according to Debbie Shaw, vice president of Auburn University alumni affairs. The committee is currently working on finding a temporary solution to rolling Toomer's Corner during the period it will take to plant the trees and allow it/them to successfully establish roots (a three- to five-year process). The poisoned oaks are still living, although are expected to die. They will not be removed as long as they are living. The oaks are anticipated to be rolled for at least one more football season.
